OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
EQUINE RAILWAY ACCESS
About Us We are David and Jenni Miller. David has an interest in anything railway and steam locomotives, is the webs designer and I, Jenni, have an interest in horses, riding, maps and the countryside. We are based near Wrexham in North Wales and emigrated here some while ago from the South East of England. Perfect two interests brought together in this website. My first horse was a Welsh cob and I looked round for something we could both manage. I came across a VHS video on Long distance riding with the presenter and journalist Dylan Winter in which he rode the Ridgeway to Stonehenge, a distance of 100 miles, camping as he went. The Long Distance was attractive but the camping bit I tried was a trial from near Cerrigydrudion (North Wales) to Lake Vyrnwy in Powys, ending up with a disturbed night and a stomping headache in the morning! Since then I have ridden a few long rides, Jack Mytton Way, The Pennine Bridleway and from St David’s in Pembrokeshire to Talacre in North Wales plus other ventures. The activity was curtailed rather for a few years due to having to go back to full time work and I’ve been watching others from the side-lines green with envy! I love looking at maps and researching routes. Watching a programme about walking the old railway lines it occurred to me that there must be a difficulty knowing where they are and if they are accessible to horse riders. Access is always a problem where ever you ride in strange places, so with my lovely other half and help of long riding friends we decided to build a website to log county by county where they all are. A free one stop resource.
