OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
Abergavenny Railway Path
This was a line from Merthyr, and Tredegar and Abergavenny. This part
of the line from Llanfoist to Clydach is about 4.3 miles long and is Sustrans
cycle route 46. It was also known as the Heads of the Valley Line operated
between 1860 and closed in 1958. It's worth reading the Wiki info on the
history of the line (link below). There's mention of a Horse drawn
Tramway! It brought raw material to and from various ironworks.
Dilapidated former railway signal huts have been made into Bat roosts.
They are monitored by the Vincent Wildlife Trust. It looks a really nice
railway line to ride and the history is interesting.
