OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
Bubwith Rail Trail
The Bubwith Rail Trail was part of the Selby to Market Weighton Railway.
The trail is a designated Bridleway and only goes as far as the River Derwent.
The bridge over it has been dismantled apart from some arched brick work
remaining. The routing of the extension to Beverley was problematic
because of the fact that the line crossed the Dalton Holme Estate. Financial
problems occurred with the York & North Midland rail and they argued
there was little public need for the line. Under local pressure the line was
completed in 1854.
Passenger services were withdrawn under the Beeching cuts 1965.
