OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK

This is approximately a 6 mile trail overlooking the Chiltern Hills. It is
multiuser path and connects to the Ridgeway/ Icknield Way. It is open to
horse riding.
The Watlington and Princes Risborough railway was branch line first opened
in 1872. It was not commercially a success and the great Western Railway
acquired it on 1
st
July 1883. Passenger services ceased 1
st
July 1957 and goods
traffic continued till 1
st
January 1961. A section remained operational to serve
the Chinnor Cement works until 1989.
The end of the Phoenix way at Princes Risborough joins a byway to
Horsendon and you can find your way round the outskirts of the town to the
start of the Ridgeway. A small amount of on-road riding. Car parking is a
