OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
Cheshire Lines Path
Lancashire
The Cheshire Lines Committee was the second largest joint operated railway company
in the UK. The Cheshire Lines path is on the line they operated between Southport
and Liverpool. Most of its network was in Lancashire and had no locomotives of its
own. The line closed in 1952
The Cheshire Lines path runs from Plex Moss to Maghull and is now part of the Trans
Pennine trail and Sustrans route 62. This section is about 5.5 miles long. The Trans
Pennine trail carries on but is a section not on disused railway line and possibly
unsuitable for long distance horse riding. There is also the Liverpool Loop line on
disused railway line south of the Cheshire Lines Path which is part of the Trans
Pennine Trail ending at Halewood..
