OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
Fallowfield Loop Line
Cheshire
This was a railway line with ten stops starting in Chorlton passing
through Fallowfield and terminating at Fairfield in the east. We
measured it to be 6.5 miles long. Opened in 1892 and was closed to
all traffic by 1988. Hyde Road Station was used to demonstrate the
Metro Tram system in 1987. Now it is a walking, cycling and horse
friendly path opened in early 2000 after pressure from a myriad of
groups which came together as The Friends of the Fallowfield Loop.
