This railway was built to link Fraserburgh, Peterhead and Aberdeen going from Dyce to Mintlaw. Opened in 1861 and a further section from Maud to Peterhead was opened the following year. It splits at Maud, one going East to Peterhead and the other going Northwards to Fraserburgh. The total length is 53 miles! The promoters of the lines were mostly farmers who needed transport of livestock to market so the line meanders a fair bit. Traffic on the lines was seasonal. The complete closure of the line was in 1979 despite the amount of usage of the gas and off shore oil industries.
