The Meon Valley Trail The old railway line from West Meon in Hampshire to 1.5 miles beyond Wickham. A disused railway line approximately 11 miles long. Some is a permissive bridleway and some definitive map bridleway. There is a car park at West Meon just off Station Road. Grid ref: SU 556 100 Grid ref: SU 642 237 Originally ran from Fareham to Alton and opened in 1903. Passenger services were withdrawn after 5 February 1955. The line was closed completely on 13 August 1968. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meon_Valley_Railway#Trail https://www.hants.gov.uk/thingstodo/countryside/finder/meonvalleytrail

Hi, not sure why/what permissive sections but there are no locked gates for access. The line goes past North Farm and thru to Wickham and onto Knowle. A new section is being resurfaced at the Knowle end but I have not been there yet. Surface is a bit stony by all accounts. Knowle to Fareham is not really very scenic, it is accessed by road and riders need to go thru a tunnel under the M27, but the council has put mounting blocks either end of the tunnel. I am based at Soberton and enclose some pics of that area. Hope that's helpful
