OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
From the East Riding of Yorkshire, the railway line travels south west towards
Hull. It is a bridleway 10.14 miles long ending near Castle Hill, North Carr.
The rail trail is part of the Trans Pennine Way.
There is a short section in Hornsea where there is a diversionary bridle path
for equestrians via Letty Bridge if riding to/from the beach. From Castle Hill
it continues as a footpath but it looks possible to keep following the route.
The individual rider would have to decide whether to continue as it does pass
through some built up areas or if to take a diversionary path as there isn’t any
bridleways away from the trail. There are a few minor roads before the end of
the trail suitable for equestrians.
This was a railway line running from Hull to Hornsea, which, with several
others was part of the area run by The Yorkshire and North Midland Railway.
Hornsea was promoted as a seaside resort as a result of the railway being
extended to the front. The line was opened in 1864. The last Passenger train
was in 1964 and goods traffic ceased in 1965 at Hornsea Bridge.
