OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
Hudson Way
This was the York to Beverley line which in its entirety opened in 1865 in the East
Riding of Yorkshire. The first part was constructed from York to Market Weighton.
The second part to Beverley was completed in in 1860s. It was delayed by 17 years
partly because of the downfall of George Hudson. Finance also played a part with the
collapse of the Railway Bubble at the time. Closure came in November 1965.
Now a 10 mile railway path, and a designated Bridleway. There is the possibility of
linking with the Bubwith Rail Trail from Market Weighton by avoiding the busier
roads and using minor roads and bridleways.
