Liverpool loop Line
The Liverpool loop Line is 9.2 miles long from near Aintree to Halewood
and was originally linked to the Cheshire Line ‘Path’ railway line. It was in
operation between 1879 and 1972, and abandoned in 1964 by British Rail. It
was intended to become the Eastern Section of the Merseyrail Outer Loop
circling the city. It was built to allow better choice of destinations to Wirral
line users. In 1986 it was proposed that it become a walking/cycling route and
the opening took place in 2000.
Note: We at Equine Railway Access have seen a video of the whole line by a cyclist and it is clear to us
it is perfectly viable to ride on horseback, but can see no references to it being permitted although it is
part of the Trans Pennine Trail.
