OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
Prestatyn-Dyserth Way
This 2 ½ mile route which follows the path of a disused railway line built initially to serve the mines and quarries in the surrounding hillsides transporting lead, zinc, silver and limestone mined from the area. It also carried passengers for a short period with sixteen passenger trains per day using the line at its peak. Competition from bus services killed it and it closed in 1930 after 104 years in use to passengers, the final freight train leaving Dyserth Quarry and the line closing completely in 1973. Now the Prestatyn -Dyserth Way it is mostly overlooked locally due to the Offa's Dyke path. It is tree lined with breaks where seats have been placed to observe the stunning panoramic views of Snowdonia and the Coast. For horse riders there are no barriers we have observed and excellent parking at both ends. Grid ref: SJ0588 8226 Parking at the Playing field – follow tarmac path to/from Parking area. Grid ref: SJ 0263 7927 Parking may have height barrier across. Alternative parking Anglia house next door.
Love the old fashioned bell in the video and the cyclist thanking each person he passed.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaSPSbrKNRo
