Shide to Sandown
Almost 14 miles distance Shide to Sandown rail is a combination of trails, although it
was obviously a continuous railway formerly the Shide to Sandown railway opening
in 1875. Newport to Shide opened in 1879. It closed in 1956. There are a few slight
diversions en route, possibly because of Landowner issues, but otherwise the trail is
tree lined and on tarmac most of the way. The rider has plenty of options to explore
further on the many bridleways it connects to.
