A 10 mile accessible railway line from Newport to Stafford with opportunities to take alternative bridleways, and to link to the Cannock chase. It passes under the M6 near Derrington. It was the former railway line between Stafford and Shrewsbury open in 1849, closing in 1966 and went via Newport and Wellington. Although it is not shown as a permissive bridleway and there’s no mention of horse riding, it seems there is no obstruction to prevent horse riding along it. This is the Stafford to Newport greenway, shared use, About 10 miles, definitely a lovely off road ride (google also Derringtom village trail, has lots of info, I was very involved with this), it's not too far from Cannock chase, which also has v old railway track from when there was an army camp there now used by walkers, riders, runners etc. Amazing place to ride.
