OLD RAILWAYS ON HORSEBACK
Taff Trail
Merthyr to Pontsticill
Starting In Merthyr (Williamstown) just off the A4102, the trail travels northerly on tarmac
along its length passing over the fantastic Cefn Coed Viaduct. The course of the rails can
still be seen in its surface. Horse styles all along the trail are in places where motorised
traffic is restricted. The Trail is just over 4 miles long. Passing by the Taf Fechan Nature
reserve winding its way following the Taf Fechan river upstream. The trail is essentially a
bridleway at the last 2 miles near Pontsticill and is also part of NCN 8. See the stunning
views as the Taff trail climbs from Merthyr to over 1000 feet from a mere 600 feet!
